Roots of Resilience explores resilience not as a private trait, but as a living web of connections that sustains us. Drawing on Active Hope and The Work That Reconnects, the workshop invites participants to move beyond the idea of resilience as “bouncing back alone” and instead cultivate practices of collective courage, mutual support, and shared meaning. By grounding ourselves in community and the wider living world, we nurture the deeper roots that allow us to face challenge, change, and uncertainty—together by opening our eyes, minds, and hearts.
“The Work that Reconnects” helps to support and mobilise us to reconnect with what is really important, to face reality, and to reframe passive hope into active engagement during these troubling times. It was originally developed by inspirational eco-philosopher Joanna Macy in the late 1970s for activists, bringing together aspects of deep ecology, systems theory and Buddhism.
The Spiral Journey is a framework that safely helps us to experience our fullest selves, including our gratitude, our pain, to develop new perspectives and to become reconnected, more creative and more energised for the work that needs to be done. This confidential session (which will NOT be recorded) offers you the opportunity to briefly experience the Spiral for yourself.

People Planet Pint Chipping Norton - next meet up 5 June 2025
Many people find it hard to start or have conversations about issues like climate change, ecological decline, social issues, potential collapse, and all the related entanglements, so they avoid it. Yet when they do, as I have discovered in the past few years of hosting climate and ecological spaces, they often express relief.
The word comes up again and again. Relief.
In this 1.5 hour session on Zoom I’ll share a simple framework I developed in 2021, called “With the Earth in Mind” .
The session is on Wednesday 4th June from 09.30 hours to 11.00 BST- there are 12 places.
I created WTEIM to support conversations that people might want to have but don't know how to. And to help them to explore what’s happening in our world in way that does not force anyone to go where they don’t want to.
It’s invitational not confrontational - people are invited to pick out what piques their interest from an image with single words and take it from there. Whilst it is simple, it brings potential for meaningful conversations, greater awareness, and change, both personally and more widely, or systemically.
“With the Earth in Mind” is available to use freely under Creative Commons Licence. It can be useful for:
personal reflection
sustainability leadership conversations*
coaching practice development
coaching supervision
individual, executive, team or group coaching
team workshops and facilitated events
climate action community building
- starting all kinds of conversations about climate change in their workplaces
* It’s been used on the NHS Leadership Development Academy at the beginning of their Sustainability Leadership programme for over 800 leaders since 2023.
During the session I'll share an overview of the framework and then invite you into breakout rooms to explore in pairs, after which we'll come back to the main group and share experiences and questions.
You may find it helpful to read the guidance notes in advance.

Have you noticed the terms “collapse” and “metacrisis” becoming more widespread?
What do they bring up in you? What might they actually mean as terms – and what might they mean for you, your clients, your coaching practice and the wider ecosystem. Join Linda Aspey & Liz Hall for a gentle exploration.

Time to Think: deep listening as an act of co-creation: In these challenging times with change, uncertainty, complexity and even danger all around us, and multiple sources of information and misinformation coming at pace and scale, how do we help those we work with to make sense of it all? What is the purpose of coaching now?
The Thinking Environment focuses on creating the best possible environment for people to connect with all aspects of themselves, their inner and outer worlds, and the systems in which they are immersed and entangled. Then, a wellspring of creativity emerges, and magical things happen. And that starts with deep, generative listening.
