In September 2025 I started working, pro bono, with the leadership team of the National Emergency Briefing (NEB) as their Psychology Advisor.

The NEB is a UK-based, expert-led initiative designed to present - in-person in Westminster Hall, London - science-based evidence regarding the escalating climate and nature crises to 1200 leaders from across politics, industry, healthcare, faith, media, sport and more. Chaired by Mike Berners-Lee, the event brought 10 leading experts in climate change and environmental degradation together, highlighting that the crises including extreme weather, present a severe, immediate threat to food systems, the rest of nature, public health, national security, our economy, and energy security. Each expert then offered recommendations for government policy and action.

Following the Westminster gathering, a documentary film - The People’s Emergency Briefing - was produced, presented by Chris Packham and discussing, GoggleBox style, key aspects of the expert speakers’ presentations with the general public and celebrities including Deborah Meaden, Jennifer Saunders, Konnie Huq and Adam Buxton. The film started rolling out across the UK since April 2026 through a decentralized grassroots approach of Community Screenings by local groups to foster discussions and encourage direct engagement with local politicians. The aims are greater Public Awareness and Policy Influence with a petition calling for the Government and major TV broadcasters to run a televised screening of the film. Additionally, backers in the UK Parliament have introduced an Early Day Motion to urge official government communication and action commensurate with the scale of the crises.

For the People’s Emergency Briefings I wrote a series of Guides for hosts and facilitators which can be found here, along with designing and running regular Climate Psychology and Facilitation Skills workshops for people hosting and facilitating screenings. Built around a new framework called Seven Elements (for meeting the climate and nature crisis together), my aim was to bring these skills to a wide range of people with limited facilitation experience or understanding of climate psychology. The Climate Psychology Alliance (CPA) fully endorsed my work, and led by me, has become an official partner to the NEB, additionally kindly providing me with CPA administrative support.

As of 20 May 2026 over 230 people have participated in one of my Climate Psychology and Facilitation Skills workshops, each taking the learnings back to their organising team. I have trained a small team at the CPA who will be supporting me in delivering more workshops. Over 300 screenings have taken place, with a further 700 confirmed, and a further 1000 in the planning!

Other Pro Bono Work

I dedicate as much time as possible to supporting the Climate Psychology Alliance at national and international level, along with climate and nature action groups at local level in West Oxfordshire, South Warwickshire and the North Cotswolds.

I run the Chipping Norton People Planet Pint and am a member of Chipping Norton Town Council’s Climate and Ecology Working Group.

I offer other local climate groups ad hoc speaking, facilitation, coaching and psychological support to encourage conversations, help to build communities, build resilience and maximise their impact. I have run many Climate Cafe Listening Circles, People’s Assemblies, Grassroots campaign meetings, and Active Hope workshops using Joanna Macy’s “Work That Reconnects”.
