I am pleased to offer this 75 minute Work that Reconnects session at no charge.

Who is this Workshop for?

It is invaluable for anyone with a concern and love for people and planet as we live through these tumultuous times that are full of uncertainty, and ripe for change. You may be:

  • Keen to explore the Work that Reconnects, having heard of it but not experienced it

  • Seeking the first steps of a shift towards a greater sense of purpose, agency and resilience

  • Wanting to explore new ways support and inspire others

Past participants of my workshops include activists, facilitators, leaders, teachers, coaches, conservationists, ecologists, parents and others; many with more than one role or identity.

All are welcome.

What is the Work that Reconnects?

The Work that Reconnects was developed by Joanna Macy, an American environmental activist, author and scholar of Buddhism, general systems theory, deep ecology and undoing oppression. Joanna died on 19 July 2025 at the age of 96, after a lifetime of service to our psychological, spiritual and ecological worlds. Her work has inspired millions, and continues to do so.

One of her greatest, lasting gifts to us was “The Work that Reconnects”, a beautiful set of practices, and a group process to foster emotional and spiritual grounding, developed, in cooperation with many colleagues over several decades.

It helps to support and mobilise us to ground us, emotionally and spiritually, to reconnect with what is really important, to face reality with compassion, and to reframe passive hope into active engagement. This is known as Active Hope, a way of responding to our world’s challenges through intention and action, and a way to apply the tools of the Work that Reconnects to bring about the desired changes for a flourishing future. Joanna developed and wrote about Active Hope with Chris Johnstone.

About this Workshop

The most powerful way to understand the Work that Reconnects is through an experiential workshop, which brings the many ideas and writings (including the books “Coming Back to Life” and “Active Hope”) to life.

We will go on the “Spiral Journey” which helps us to safely process some of our more difficult feelings that we may have been avoiding, to express our gratitude for life and the living world, to develop new perspectives that we had not previously considered, and to become reconnected, more creative and more energised for the work that needs to be done.

The Workshop is a standalone experience and also serves as a taster for my other Work that Reconnects events - keep an eye out on the Gatherings section - where we dive further into the ideas and practices and explore other individual and collective resilience practices that can support people during testing times. There are other, more advanced programmes available all over the world, that can take place over several weeks and months, to which I can signpost you.

PLEASE NOTE - This session will be confidential - we will agree this and other ways of being at the start. It will NOT be recorded.

Cameras

I ask that you have your video camera on during this workshop if you are able and willing, especially at the start and end, and for the pairs and small group exercises, as for many - not all - people - it aids in creating and maintaining connection and safety. However if that doesn’t for you, please send me a message when you book and together we can explore ways of making it work for everyone.

NB: This will be a profound and valuable experience but is not intended as a substitute for personal therapy. If you’re experiencing extreme anxiety please contact me via here for a confidential discussion about how you can get the support you need.

To register interest please complete the form below. You will then be sent a link by email to register for the Zoom. This 2nd layer of registration is for security (we sometimes get spam registrations from our website).
