Think Well, Think Together: An Introduction to the Thinking Environment (Free)

Independent thinking is a critical skill in these challenging times, yet often we don't make time for it, or the group or organisational culture doesn't really welcome it.

Over many years we discovered 10 conditions (or “components) that reliably create optimal conditions for independent, rigourous, imaginative and courageous thinking, whilst also encouraging collaboration.

Together, they are known as the "Thinking Environment".

This online introductory session from Linda Aspey, Faculty of Nancy Kline's Time to Think organisation, offers an overview and an experience of being in a Thinking Environment.

Come along and discover for yourself:

  • How a Thinking Environment can promote high quality thinking and insightful decision-making

  • How it can enable individuals, teams and organisations to see what’s holding them back and how to make progress

  • A powerful and inclusive approach for better meetings, impactful coaching, and thriving, engaged and inspiring workplace cultures.

There are SIX places. The session is free to attend - just register here - and if you then find you can’t come after all, please cancel so someone else can take the place!

"Next Outcomes" - a CPD workshop for Time to Think Coaches - Online - 6 October 2022

“Further outcomes” (sometimes called “Next” outcomes) occur when a client pauses in their thinking and wants to progress to somewhere different than they were, and asks the coach to help. It might be for example that they want to take an action of some kind, or stop or start feeling something, or understand why they think, behave or feel the way they do, or uncover all their assumptions.

Sometimes even experienced Time to Think coaches can get confused or anxious about encountering one of these in case they get stuck or get it wrong and don’t know how best to help their client to continue to think the issue through to a satisfactory conclusion.

So in this practical workshop we will explore how, drawing on the client’s innate “considerations” the coach can determine the needs of the client in that moment and ask a question that will most likely meet that need. We’ll experiment and have lots of fun with different outcomes, and by the end of the workshop, I’m confident that your confidence in helping your clients to work through these will have increased significantly!

This course is intended for both qualified Time to Think coaches AND those still in practicum on any Time to Think coaching course.

When: 6 October 2022 from 09.30 am-1.30 pm GMT

Coffee in an Online Thinking Environment - 1st Wednesdays - no charge

Join us for Coffee in an Online Thinking Environment!

It's open to anyone interested in the Thinking Environment (aka Time to Think), it's completely free, it's warm and it's welcoming.

The way it works is that we all gather, do a Round to say hello, then go off into breakout rooms in small groups to discuss a suggested question or have a general conversation. Everyone promises to listen fully and not interrupt, and to take turns. So we offer each other "Attention" "Ease" and "Equality" as well as other elements that form a whole system for independent, generative thinking.

We meet on the 1st Wednesday of each month via Zoom at 10am until 11.15am. You can join us occasionally or regularly - there’s no charge.

The link is here - please register on Eventbrite.

Conference Overview

Many organisations are recognising the importance of employee wellbeing and using coaching as one part of the wellbeing strategy to help create healthier work force.

Evidence suggests that even a small improvement in wellbeing can help people to flourish and also help to decrease some mental health problems, therefore understanding the impacts of wellbeing and strategies to improve it can contribute to enabling people to reach their potential and improve their performance at work.

This years West Midlands Coaching and Mentoring Pool Conference focuses on the role work based coaches and coaching have to play in helping develop resilience and manage stress, the importance of connecting with others, choosing your attitude, and looking after yourself as a coach so you can help others. As well as touching on topics that may impact performance at work but often go unspoken, such as menopause.

Linda Aspey will be running a fascinating workshop - details tba!

Coaching in a Thinking Environment

Linda introduces the concept of Coaching for a Thinking Environment to coaches in the NHS in the North East, in Durham.

This CPD workshop will introduce the Ten Components of a Thinking Environment and will allow you to practice being with and coaching each other in a new way. You will also experience some of the applications of the Thinking Environment for groups and teams. There will be many opportunities to seek answers to your questions, to share your own thinking, and to develop your own ideas.

By the end of the day you will have:

  • An understanding of how the Thinking Environment facilitates a person’s thinking

  • Coached and been coached, discovering what generative attention looks and feels like, and the impact that it makes in igniting thinking

  • Considered how this can improve thinking, enhance relationships and transform conversations

Our Beautiful Planet is in Dire Crisis: An invitation to gather in a Thinking Environment, to learn, connect, & explore together what we can do about it

Cape Town thinker - joshua-earle-234346.jpg

“If those in power today don’t act, it will be our generation who will live through their failure. Those who are under 20 now could be around to see 2080, and face the prospect of a world that has warmed by up to 4C. The effects of such warming would be utterly devastating. Rivers would flood, storms would wreak havoc on coastal communities and coral reefs would be eliminated. Melting polar ice caps would lead to dramatically higher sea levels, flooding coastal areas. Places on Earth will become uninhabitable" Greta Thurnberg et al.

I'm inviting you to come & discuss what's really happening & explore what we can do to play our part in averting this crisis. There will be no shaming or blaming; instead inclusive, thoughtful & supportive conversations. Hosted by me and @Jennifer Clark Sustainability Consultant & Coach, & former Global SVP of Sustainability at Skanska, please bring your questions, concerns & importantly, hopes.

The cost is just £20pp on the day towards room hire and teas / coffees. Bring lunch to share if you wish, or you can shop at nearby food outlets.
